Objective: The purpose of this project is to observe and reserch whether the additionof WAA(Wrist-Ankle Acupuncture) based on Conventional Acupuncture can achieve betterefficacy of acupuncture treatment for the neck type of cervical spondylosis, so as to find amore effective treatment methods and a new idea for treating this disease. Methods: Sixty patients of the neck type of cervical spondylosis were divided in totwo groups via Doll’s random number table. Each groups were treated with conventionalacupuncture needle for30minutes, while the observation group was given WAA at thesame time. Each group was treated once a day. They were given two courses. Each coursecontained the treatment of six days. And there was one day off between the two courses. We took visual analogue scale method (VAS) to test the pain of the patients, and the neckdisability index (NDI) to test the effect which was caused to patients’ life. VAS scores wereobserved before treatment and after the end of the two courses, and NDI scores too. Theywere recorded and evaluated in between-group and within-group comparisons. Results: The cervical pain score and functional impairment score of two groups aftertreatment decreased than before treatment. There were significant differences (P <0.05).But the difference of VAS score and NDI score of before-and-after treatment in the observation group was larger and higher total efficiency appeared in this group. Therewere significant differences (P <0.05).Conclusion: After treatment, the pain of this disease can be effectively relievedand the function of cervical damage can also be improved, especially in the observationgroup as a significant effect. The addition of WAA based on theconventional acupuncture can significantly improve the therapeutic efficacy of cervicalsyndrome.
