Objective: Observe and evaluate the clinical and therapeutic effect in the lumbar intervertebral disc herniation and low back pain of acupuncture using the Wrist-ankle acupuncture method. Develop a new way of treatment.Methods: In accordance with the requirements of prospective study, the subjects of 64 cases of patients with lumbar disc herniation were randomized controlled observation.The object in accordance with uniform diagnostic criteria, exclusion criteria and strict screening of the standard. Treatment group with 34 cases use wrist-ankle acupuncture plus routine acupuncture method, 30 cases of the control group use conventional acupuncture treatment. 10 times is a course of treatment. All cases before and after treatment were studied and classify using the Japanese Society of Orthopedic Surgery of the lumbar spine disorders criteria comprehensive integrated score (JOA score), and visual simulation pain scale score (VAS score), after the end of treatment were graded in accordance with the evaluation of clinical efficacy. Finally, the data collection were using Excel software, and an statistical software for data analysis SPSS 13.0.Results: Evaluation of clinical efficacy results showed the classification, treatment and control groups of the total effective rates were 97.06% and 93.33%, no significant difference (P> 0.05); the cure rates were 61.76% and 36.67%, markedly effective rate respectively 66.67% and 88.24%, both significantly different (P <0.05), the treatment group than the control group. Group pre-and post-treatment score comparison showed that two groups of patients before and after treatment VAS score and JOA score are very significant differences (p <0.01), the treatment group the average VAS score decreased to 1.41 from 6.35 in the control group the average VAS score decreased from 6.43 to 2.87; the treatment group the average JOA score increased to 27.06 from 13.76 in the control group the average JOA score from 14.13 to 24.43. Before and after treatment the VAS score difference between the two groups and the JOA score differences were significant differences (P <0.05), the treatment group were better than the control group.Conclusion: Treatment and control groups therapy methods for patients with lumbar disc herniation showed accurate clinical curative effects, but the treatment group can significantly improve the recovery of lumbar disc herniation rate. Treatment group method in reducing pain in conscious patients is better than the control group. The treatment group shows many advantages, improvement in subjective symptoms, in clinical pathological signs, and activities of daily life. This study shows that with the conventional wrist-ankle acupuncture needle used in prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc to improve the clinical value of treatment.
