Objective: To investigate the status and influencing factors of social support and needs ofthe NSICU patients’ family members in one hospital, discuss the correlation of needs andsocial support. To provide the basis for exploring the implementation of support programs forfamily members of patients;and provide direction to assist families to seek effective socialsupportion to response to the health crisis.Methods: Investigated100NSICU patients’ in the first affiliated hospital of Shiheziuniversity medical school in May2012to September2012,to1:1matching their familydependents. Used general data questionnaire to collect demographic characteristics of patientsand families; Used Social Support Scale(SSRS)、Critical Care Family Needs Table (CCFNI)to analyze the social support and demands with family members of patients in the NSICU in24~72hours,then were transferred to the general wards within24h. Established a databaseby Epidata3.02software, imputed the data into SPSS17.0statistical software for datadescriptive analysis, ANOVA, t-test, multiple linear stepwise regression and Pearsoncorrelation analysis.Results:1. The scores of social support of the family members:within24~72h after patientsinto the NSICU was (41.12+7.06); Within24h after transferred to ordinary ward was43.44+7.71, which was statistically significant.2. Among5dimensions of CCFNI: in descending order the families’ needs wereinsurance of patients condition,proximity, getting information, their own comfort, andsupport stuff. The NSICU patients family members“insurance”scores were3.83±0.21,higher than turn to general ward(3.70±0.29),and had statistically significant (P <0.05);The needs of comfort and support from health care were lower than turning to general ward(P<0.05). In the NSICU environment, families and patients can not meet. In fact, and it bringsgreat strangeness, helplessness and so on. It has become the people’s demand for maximumsupport.3. Correlation analysis results showed that when patients in NSICU, a positivecorrelation between the needs of patients condition to ensure and the subjective level ofsupport; their own comfort needs and objective support status; When patients transferred to ageneral ward, there had a significant positive correlation to close to the patient’s needs,information support demands with subjective support, Pearson correlation coefficients were:0.289,0.286; Information support, close to the patient, the illness assurance and overall levelof social support were positively correlated relationship, Pearson correlation coefficient of0.299,0.228,0.220, respectively. 4.24~72h the patients into NSICU after, Social supports of patients families had beeninfluenced by patient’s age, family income, sources of hospital fees, families membersbackground of education, with or without of ICU care experience (P <0.05), multi-factorlinear stepwise regression analysis showed: There were4factors influencing these scores ofsocial support, ranked dependently as follows: dependents background of education,professional status, household income, sources of hospital fees. Within24h after transfered tothe general ward,the patients and their families’ age, family members of the professionalstatus had been influenced the social support of patients families (P <0.05), according tomulti-factor linear stepwise regression analyzed, the age of the patient’s, the patientsoccupational status, the families background of education, and the needs of gettinginformation were influenced to the scores of social support. Visible, in today’s social andeconomic development, the economic factor is no longer a doctor’s first to hospitalization;High degree of family culture, know more about medical science, will not be unfoundedworry. Thus, in the social economic development today, the economy is no longer a primaryfactors; the degree of family culture is too high. To learn more about medical science is notTo avoid unwarranted fears.Conclusion:1. ICU subjective support the families of patients with social support than patientstransferred to the general ward after.2. In the five families of patients demand side, is the strongest guarantee of the patient’scondition,。With the patient transferred to the general ward, family members and medicalsupport in their own comfort needs increased. Can be seen in today’s soc-io-economicdevelopment, economic factors are no longer the primary doctor; family education level ishigh, about the medical science learn more, you will not have unfounded fears.3. Family members in the condition to ensure access to information, access to thepatient’s needs in three dimensions and their level of social support were positivelycorrelated.4. The patient’s age, gender, employment status, household income level, sources ofhospital costs and their family members’ age, education level, employment status, length ofday care, whether there had ICU experience, the demand for access to information such asfamily members of patients affect the level of social support.
