To develop a suitable job burnout scale for clinical doctors, especially for the doctors of Militarydoctors and examine its reliability and validity. After extensive studies on contemporary literatures, do interviews of job burnout on clinicaldoctors at different levels, setting up theory scheme and compiling contents of job burnout amongdoctors. The main structure of doctor burnout has5factors, including fatigue, work experience, achievement, mood management and doctor-patient relationship.Establish the original items of doctorburnout after investigated with a half-opened questionnaire, and discuss the theory scheme and theoriginal items by expert method. Then establish the item pools and develop the burnout scale forclinical doctors. After the pre-test of97doctors,200clinical doctors were random sampling chosen, and tested with this scale,180of them were tested by Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory at the sametime. A total of200clinical doctors were tested and the items were re-screened by such indexes as itemdiscrimination, spearman correlation analysis, item analysis, exploratory factor analysis and so on.Then460doctors were examined by confirmatory factor analysis, Cranach’s ɑ coefficient andCorrelationAnalysis. The final scale contained29items. According to factor analysis, we chose six factors, namedfatigue, job dedication, achievement, mood management, job prospects and competence. To illustratethe liability and stability, we had the following results:1. Subjects with higher scale scores also had significantly higher scores in almost every factorsand total scale than did the doctors with lower scale scores.2. The Cronbach’α of total scale was0.870,and subscales were0.703~0.890.3. The correlation coefficients among factors were0.323~0.672(P<0.01),and correlationcoefficients of total scale scores and each factor were0.162~0.670(P<0.01).4. According to the results of confirmatory factor analysis, there was a higher degree ofaccordance between the sample data and the hypothesized structure of six factors, with theProbability level was0.000,the relative chi-square as2.593,the root mean square error ofapproximation (RMSEA)was0.059,and the comparative fit index CFI was0.871;relative fitindex NFI was0.809,IFI was0.873RFI was0.771; parsimony index PGFI was0.725.5. The correlation was significant between this ale and Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory. The study has preliminary completed the development of the Job Burnout Scale for ClinicalDoctors and examine its reliability and validity. Through a series of researches on the scale, it hasproved that the scale possesses acceptable psychometrics properties on reliability and validity. Thescale could be extended in other research interests for clinical doctors.
