Along with the reform and opening up in the early1980s, the economic system and administrative structure have changed significantly. The rapid advance of the modernization process caused a serious interest differentiation of socio-economic status of urban residents, which was intensified by the market process of real estate. This phenomenon is characterization into a centralized distribution of urban low-income groups and residential segregation. In the context of overall social transformation, the redevelopment of old city, what is sought after by the local governments and real estate market, has become an important driving force of the transformation and reconstruction of Chinese urban space. Large-scale demolition and construction of Indemnificatory housing caused a series of phenomenon of space reproduction, and the living inequality contradiction of low-income groups is intensified along with the urban space outward expansion. In recent years, from the central to local government attaches great importance to the construction of Indemnificatory Housing for the low-and middle-income people, especially the goal the completion of10million sets in2011, shows the great determination. However, Large-scale construction of indemnificatory housing will have a great influence on the urban social space, which cannot be ignored.This paper reveals the positive and negative effects the construction of indemnificatory housing on the urban social space evolution based on the case study of Nanjing, rethink the problems applying the space production theory, and puts forward recommendations through learning from international advanced experience. This section is as follows:The article is divided into three parts and eight chapters. The first part, theory construction and research summary includes the background, significance of this study, research methods, the theoretical framework, and a review of the relative researches of domestic and foreign.The second part, the empirical research the effects of the indemnificatory housing on social space, includes the third to fifth chapter. On the basis of analysis of China and Nanjing indemnificatory housing development process and present characteristics, reveals the positive and negative effects the construction of indemnificatory housing on the urban social space evolution through the questionnaire survey results and in-depth interviews.The third part, the theoretical analysis of the reproduction of space, includes Chapter sixth to eighth, analyze the connotation, the mechanism, causes of the construction of indemnificatory housing, which is the process of reproduction of space. Finally, puts forward recommendations through learning from international advanced experience.
