A Study On Vascular Plant Resources And The Main Forest Vegetation Types In Xuzhou Area

Xuzhou is in northwest of Jiangsu Province, located at longitude116°22’～118°40’, latitude33°40’to34°58’, far from the sea.It has a continental climate and is hottest area in summer and coldest area in winter in Jiangsu.The present forms of landscape in xuzhou are mainlyplain and mountain accounted for10%area of the city.I visitedthe typical Hilly areas of Xuzhou (Including Quanshan,Yunlongshang Daongdongshan,Aishang and Malingshan) many times in2011-2012to survey the Vegetation of this area. I also visitedFengxian,Peixian,Pizhou,Xinyi to survey the Plant Resourcesof this area.The main conclusions are as follows.Xuzhou has690species (including627wild species and63kinds of cultivated plants which has45mportant species of xylophyta), belonging to388genus in113families.Xuzhou Floristic composition is mainly temperate elements, which reflects the characteristics of the area is located in the temperate continental climate zone. Meanwhile A high proportion of Tropical elements reflects Xuzhou is located in the geographical features of the warm temperate southern edge of the north subtropical transition.The flora of Xuzhou has a transition characteristics of warm temperate to Northern subtropical.There are4Undocumented species have been found in Xuzhou. They arelncarvillea sinensis var.sinensisi、sida cordifolioides、Plantago major L.and Gueldenstaedtia harmsii Ulbr.According to the Plant Resources Classification System by WuZhengYi and the flora of JiangSu,The Plant Resources of Xuzhou can be classificated as:214kinds edible plants,232kinds medicinal plants,119kinds ornamental plants,117kinds green plants,97kinds energy plants,65kinds timber plants, and167kinds other end-use plants.According to<Vegetation of China> the Vegetation of Xuzhou can be divided into Coniferous forest, Deciduous broadleaf forest, coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest including platycladus forest,platycladus-locust forest, locust-firmiana simplex forest,platycladus-ulmus pumila forest,platycladus-broussonetia papyrifera forest,locust forest,locust-mulberry forest andlocust-pistacia chinensis-acer buergerianum forest. The results of diversity indexIndicate that diversity varied in different habitats,highest in the deciduous forest, next in the coniferous-deciduous mixed forest and lowest in the coniferous forest.
