Biodiversity is the foundation of human beings,and the main composition and carrier of it is plant diversity.Basising on investigation and statistics on related literatures of the plant diversity in Huanggang city,the present saturation of plant diversity in this area had been studied in detail,which can provide basic data and guidance for the protection of plant diversity and the exploitation and utilization of native plants.The results were given as following:1. There are 1792 species,810 genera and 201 families of vascular plants, including 1622 species,743 genera and 194 families of wild vascular plants in Huanggang city. The wild vascular plants consists of 77 species,49 genera and 30 families of pteridophytes and 1545 species,694 genera and 164 families of spermatophytes.Compositae, Gramineae, Rosaceae, Papilionaceae and Lamiaceae are the five most widespread families, contributing 22.62% of the wild vascular plants.2. There are 82 rare and endangered plants species in Huanggang city,including 42 species of national grade and 40 species of nonnational grade.The investigation and statistics indicate that there are 19682 old and famous trees,including 255 belong to level 1(≥500a),1894 belong to level 2(300a to 499a),17533 belong to level 3(100a to 299a) and 1 famous tree.The investigation and statistics also indicate that there are 56 species invasive plants, belonging to 46 genera and 25 families. Compositae, Gramineae and Amaranthaceae with 10,7, and 5 species respectively,are the three most important families,contributing 39.29% of the total species.26 species from America play an important role in the area,accounting for 46.43% of the total species.3. The floristic analysis on wild vscular plants demonstrate that there are 427 temperate genera and 245 tropical genera, accounting for 57.47%and32.97% of the total genera respectively.The north temperate genera is sbsolutely dominant,it has 146 genera, accounting for 19.65% of the total. The flora of this area is dominanted by the temperate component, and is characterized by transition from tropical zone to temperate zone, and intersection between the two zones.4. The 32 typical terrestrial plant communities are classified into 8 vegetation types,28 formations and 32 associations.The 8 vegetation types are:warm coniferous forest, temperate coniferous forest,evergreen broadleaved forest, mixed evergreen and deciduous broadleaf forest, deciduous broadleaved forest, bamboo forest, shrub and shrub-grassland. The 8 vegetation types and 28 formations were analysised in this paper.5. The investigation on plant application of different green apace(including park green space,productive plantation area,attached green space and protective greenland) show that there are 150 plant species in urban area.Among them,119 species are native to China and 63 species are native plant with natural distribution in suburban.The plant commuity structure in the urban is simple and repetitive with few varieties as constructive species such as Magnolia gradiflora,Cedrus deodara and Cinnamomum camphora.6. On the basis of investigation to the resource, the dominant trees,backbone trees and ordinary greening trees of the urban landscape plant are selected preliminary in this paper.7. Based on the investigation and analysis results,the suggestions of plant biodiversity protection and the application of landscape plants are proposed.
