The wildlife is very valuable natural resources. It maintains the balance and stability ofthe ecosystem. It is the important ecological capital which makes a great contribution tosocio-economic development. Our government takes protecting wildlife natural resources andimproving the ecological environment as a basic national policy, and has made great efforts toprotect the world’s endangered species. Field investigation is the most common and basicmethod to study the quantity and distribution of the wildlife species. The giant panda is a rare wild animal which only exists in China. The Chinesegovernment considers important to protect giant pandas. State Forestry Administrationattaches great importance to the giant panda regular resources investigation. From themid-1970s, three national giant panda survey has been carried out. The information and theprotection of the giant panda become clear. It provides an important reference forstrengthening the giant panda protection and management. With the development of geographic information system (GIS) in various fields, WebGISis used more and more widely. It’s more efficient to manage and analyze the survey data withWebGIS. And it also provides new ideas and methods to the data management of the nationalgiant panda survey. The paper focuses on how to use WebGIS to provide services for themanagement of wildlife survey data. This paper studies national giant panda survey data management and the use of WebGIStechnology in the field of wildlife survey application. It covers data collection, managementand use, etc. It develops an appropriate system platform and function modules. To implementthe idea, ArcGIS Server is selected as platform, with Microsoft’s Visual Studio2010, andASP.NET technology. Both client version and web version are carried out. They cover the functionalities ofdata upload, data query, maintenance and analysis. Users of different roles can log in to thesystem through a Web browser, and commit lots of operation. The research of this paper proposes a solution to the survey data management. It is not only compatible with the existing data entry mode, but also solves the problem of theintegration with decentralized, heterogeneous data in a timely manner. It supports aconvenient platform for query management and information display as well.
