More and more financial service organizations such as commercial banks adopt business process reengineering (BPR) to meet the challenge of deregulation, information revolution and customer diversification in global financial market. Banks rely on their operational systems to deliver functions like asset custody, payment and settlement, capital liquidation, accounting treatment, information management, cash management, disbursement management, operation cost, risk and even sales are all relied on efficient execution of bank’s operational systems, which are the cornerstone of bank’s competitiveness.Banking process reengineering, also known as industrialized operation has been under extensive research since1980s. World leading banks began the comprehensive review of their internal operation process and started the transition from traditional local branch centered operation model to standardized operation model managed by a centralized operation department. Nowadays, operation services have been one of the crucial functions for world leading banks. Operation department is in charge of establishing centralized and standardized business platform for all banking services to increase operation efficiency and reduce operation cost. Thus, customers could receive professional quality services catered to their specific requirements.The thesis is organized as follows:chapter one introduces the research background and the necessity of business process reengineering for Bank of China Ba Yan Nao Er branch; chapter two analyzes the current operation processes of Bank of China Ba Yan Nao Er branch; chapter three describes the shortcomings of current operation processes and their underlying inefficiency through questionnaires; chapter four proposes a plan for business process reengineerillg in Bank of China Ba Yan Nao Er branch;chapter five gives detailed implementation and reengineering methodology.
