With the coming of the post-PC era, the demarcation between the traditional sense ofthe embedded system and computer is becoming more and more blurred. Especially therapid development of the mobile Internet, it changed largely people’s work and life. In thisbackground, the multimedia technology has a new development. The multimediatransmission has changed from the completed download mode to the real-time streaming,which is usually called the streaming media technology.This topic is based on embedded system which combined with streaming mediatechnology, and designed a high-performance, low power consumption and has thefunction such as face detection of network video monitoring system. The system usesARM-based hardware platform, and software platform is the Linux OS, the videocompression encoding is using the highest efficiency coding-H.264so far, the part of facedetection is based on Intel’s leading cross-platform computer vision library-OpenCv(OpenSource Computer Vision Library), the part of network transmission is mainly based onAdobe System’s RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol), which is the Adobe System’sproprietary protocol, that transfer video and data over the Internet between Flash playerand Flash server.The paper first introduces the subject’s background, then elaborate the principles andprocess of the embedded system platform, which take the s3c6410(ARM11processor)asthe core, and then focuses on the study and realization process of multimedia codecs andface detection and streaming media transmission.
