The water supply pipe network is a component of urban lifeline engineering. Numerous investigations indicate that the urban underground pipe network bears much more serious damage caused by the earthquake, especially the water supply system’s partial or whole paralysis, caused by the destruction of water supply network, which leads to severe secondary disasters, and affects disaster-relief along with restoration of life and production. At present, the fact that pipeline seismic is rarely involved in the related specification of water supply pipe design, and that china lacks seismic design information and software, adds the difficulty in implementing specific work on seismic design. To enhance the reliability of water supply network under the action of earthquake and improve the level of seismic design of water supply network, developing a CAD software for engineering use on water supply pipeline seismic is practically significant.After collecting and analyzing the damaged condition of buried pipeline under the action of earthquake, along with the related data on seismic research, this paper concludes three main destructive forms of water supply pipeline under the action of earthquake:the destruction of pipe joint, the destruction of pipe itself and the destruction of the pipeline foundation. Through analysis and research of all kinds of pipeline failure mechanism, this paper obtains the main factors leading to pipeline damage under the action of earthquake: shear wave function, faulting, pipe buoyancy effect and permanent deformation effect (PGD) caused by sandy soil liquefaction, and so on.According to the current seismic theories for water supply pipelines&associated with the related anti-seismic codes and guidelines of water supply pipelines, it studies and develops the CAD software. Then the paper sets up the frame of the software which the contents as follow.(1) the query of anti-seismic materials:design codes of pipeline^seismic fortification intensity, the layout graph of pipeline and the geological prospecting data of site.(2) the analysis on earthquake:shearing wave、fault crossing、buoyancy due to liquefaction and PGD;(3) the calculus on earthquake:shearing wave、fault crossing、buoyancy due to liquefaction and PGD;(4) anti-seismic measures of pipelines on engineering:the treatment for body of pipeline、the selection and enforcement of basement、the selection of joints’ forms and special anti-seismic joints measures and the selection of pipe.(5) The evaluation of pipelines under earthquake. Be in accordance with the contents of seismic design for water supply pipeline and the theories of development about engineering software, the study uses C#.net platform which has better flexibility and integration,stronger object-faced as the developed tool, after comparing with the advantages and disadvantages of developed tools such as Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, Visual C++and Visual C#. Relying on concrete engineering, the paper does the preliminary application of the software. What’s more, aiming at the problems that exist in the application, the study makes some improvement of the software structure. Finally, the software which can be used and has the functions of integration, modularization, extension and compatibility is formed.
