The inheritance of social cultures is one of the basic functions of the mass media.Under the background of “abounding supplements”,various weeklies are chasing after each other.The evocative cultural weeklies stand out with the feature of profound cultures and modern spirits.Newspapers,especially urban newspapers therefore become the "main front" to inherit and present the regional cultures because of their strong regionality.The studies on the newspapers and their regional cultures gradually expand.The thesis selects the theme as a start and takes related research.Chapter I clarifies and introduces some basic concepts.Aimed at the relationship of the local newspapers and the regional cultures,concepts like “regional culture” and “urban culture” should be defined clearly in advance.This chapter,mainly with materials collection and selection,lays the foundation of the research.Chapter Ⅱ is the highlight of the whole thesis.The author presents the textual analysis from the ten years’development of the “Orange Weekly”,then summarizes their characteristics and laws of development.The history of the“Orange Weekly”are divided into four phases.Then,on the basis of the geographical divisions of Anhui Culture (Huaihe Culture,Wanjiang Culture and Huizhou Culture),in correspondence with related texts from the “Orange Weekly”,the author gives the in-depth analysis and thorough interpretation.Chapter Ⅲ is another wing of the thesis.Urban newspapers are rooted in their cities and the related cultural publications will definitely depict the cities’history, current situation and future.When analysing the urban culture,the author also refers to relevant texts.At the same time,the author has distributed questionnaires on competition situation of the “Orange Weekly” to one hundred readers,also conducts data statistics and research analysis in order to observe the competitive advantages and evitable disadvantages of the “Orange Weekly”. After that,the author thus analyses the making of the “Orange Weekly” and shares the development suggestions under the new background of the famous city arounding great lakes.The final conclusion part is to promote what are discussed.Starting from the “geography of spirit” of communitarianism,the author explores the practical significance on the rise and development of the "Orange Weekly":urban newspapers present regional cultures.In essence,the readers are driven to a higher level—the "geography of spirit" community from geopolitical community,which is built up in the spread of local news.The educating of readers’cultural identity comes from the long time spread and thinking of culture.Intentionally or unintentionally,it maintains the newspaper brand loyalty from readers.Besides,it also promotes inheritance and development of regional cultures.
