In recent years, the IP business continues to grow mature and the volume of thetraditional TDM system is gradually becoming lessened, especially there seems to have adramatic growth of the IP data flow in the3G business. The existing local exchangingnetwork has been unable to meet the demand. As a result, the changing and upgrading of thelocal transport system, which has to be ensrued that will not affect the traditional business, isvery urgently to do to meet the the request raised by multicore of business in the future. Allthis requires the combination of the packet technology and transport technology. Therefore, this article gives a overall introduction of the popular transport technology of thecommunication network and the background of the PTN technology. Moreover, there is adetailed interpretation and analysis of the pivotal technology of PTN, as well as how it is ledinto, designed and planned. After that, this article brings a analysis of the problems of the local transport network ofthe Unicom in the city. based on its present situation existed. In order to fulfill therequirement of the wireless3G business, the basic model of how the packet transportnetwork is established in local transport network of Unicom is proposed by the analysis ofthe bearing ways, needs of business and bandwidth as well as the network grouping model ofnew transport network. What’s more, the overall scheme and plan of the construction of theUnicom MAN PTN network is also raised in consideration of the present situation of theurban Unicom network and the request of the developing of the PTN business. Finally, theprinciple of the construction of the network based on PTN technology and the packet schemeof how the core layer, the collection layer and the interface layer is combined is established.
