Due to the rapid advances of technology in micro-electronics systems, computercommunication, integrated circuit and radio frequency, WSNs(Wireless Sensor Network) havebeen widely spread out in a variety of surveillance applications such as environmentalmonitoring, smart home facility, and industrial engineering construction quality control, etc.Wireless sensor network is severely energy-limited, so traditional network protocols, such asIEEE802.11, are not suitable for wireless sensor network. A new communication technologynamed ZigBee was then proposed. Based on IEEE802.15.4, ZigBee has features of low rate, lowpower and low cost.Usually, WSNs are deployed in remote, dangerous or sensitive environments. With low powerradio transceivers, network nodes have a limited communication range, which results in thatremote monitoring users can not retrieve data from the WSN. Consequently, a relayingtransmission network, such as GPRS network, is needed for WSN to propagate sensor data toremote monitoring users. In this paper, GPRS network is used as the relaying transmissionnetwork. WSN has a different network hierarchy and structure with GPRS network. Hence, inthe process of sensor data transmission, a gateway system is needed to implement protocolconversion.This thesis studies the ZigBee-GPRS gateway system. First, the whole function ofZigBee-GPRS gateway system is analyzed detailedly. In accordance with the idea of buildingblock design, the ZigBee-GPRS gateway system is divided into five key functional sub-modiles.They are protocol transition sub-modiles, data sequence sub-modiles, data analyzing sub-modiles,database sub-modiles and application management sub-modiles. Then, specific function anddetailed implementation of those sub-modiles of the ZigBee-GPRS gateway system is studied.Finally, we simulate this ZigBee-GPRS gateway system in Microsoft Visual C++6.0...
