The thesis is one of the research projects of The Key Project of the Program of National"863"(No. 2003AA1Z1110) and the High Technology Research and Development Program of Jiangsu Province (No. BG2005001).The thesis introduces the structures of wireless sensor network, protocol stacks, characteristics, applications, correlative key technologies and IEEE802.15.4 specifications. It gives a scheme of the WSN's validation system which is designed and accomplished. By making use of the simulation tool NS, some related routing protocols are simulated and performances are researched and analyzed.The thesis is divided into five chapters as followings.In chapter 1, the contents and background of the research task and the architecture of the thesis are introduced. In chapter 2, firstly the structures of wireless sensor network, protocol stack, characteristics and applications are introduced. Secondly its correlative key technologies are discussed. Finally the IEEE802.15.4 specifications and the Zigbee protocol stacks are described. In chapter 3, it introduces the principle of system design and correlative technologies, and then a total scheme of the WSN's validation system is given. In chapter 4, the WSN's validation system is designed and accomplished. In chapter 5, the functions of WSN network layer are analyzed and researched. Taken into account the characteristic of WSN, a simplified AODV protocol is put forward. Then, the normal AODV protocol and this proposed AODV protocol are simulated by NS. It proves that the proposed one is better than the former.
