Based On Porter’s Five-force Model Of Library Core Competence Strategy Research

Competition is the inevitable product of the commodity economy,and is the uniquecharacteristics of market economy.Competition can promote the effective operation of marketeconomy, but also promote the optimal allocation of resources.To ensure their unique advantagesof the source and remain invincible,the library should participate in the competition activity.Howto cultivate and improve the core competitive power of the library is the key.This paper choicesMichael Potter’s five-force model as the research foundation. From the five-force modelapplication in enterprises, the article analyzes dialectically the five-force model in the libraryapplication relationship. Find the library of corresponding relationship with the access capabilityof potential competitors, the bargaining capability of suppliers and buyers, the replacingcapability of substitutes, industry competitors existing competition ability. From these relations,it describes the factors to determine library core competition. And then the article summarizesthe library core competitive advantages, such as high quality user groups, high concentration ofuser groups, providing services for disadvantaged user groups; some library cooperation,personalized user service, free information service project activities; the function of informationcomplementary. Using these characteristics of library core competitive strategy, the libraryshould enhance defense ability by properly positioning, make the library core competitive rules;balance all competition factors through improvement relative to environment; strengthen thelibrary personalized service; through focusing on the cultivation of library resources to improvelibrary counterattack ability; strengthen the competition and cooperation of libraries.At present, the research about the core competitive power of the library has been quitemature. Library core competence study is quite outstanding and has become a research hotshot inthe library in ten years from2000to now. However, based on Potter’s five-force model of librarycore competitiveness has not yet formed a more detailed unified view.There are less thesis aboutthe five-force model of core competence of library on library academia journals,and no Master’sthesis or Doctoral Dissertation.In the past, many are some simple theoretical research.From theoverall global expansion,there are no specific details of the formation of a profound system ofresearch content.In order to make up for the deficiencies,this article attempts breakthrough in the research ofthe library based on the five-force model analysis of the core competitiveness.This paper usesPotter’s five-force model to analyses library core competence characteristics,andindependently,systematic, detailedly study on the entity connotation and immanent attribute ofLibrary core competence.
