Radio frequency identification (RFID) can identify an object by Radio Frequency Signal and obtain the related data. It is a kind of non-contact automatic identification technology. RFID, who has the characteristics of multi-target identification, real time positioning and quick recognition, it can work without manual intervention. It has been widely applied to many other areas, and it is an important basic technology for social information.The prison is an important part of the state apparatus, and it is also the penalty enforcement authorities for the management and custody of prisoners. It builds a prison society in which prisoners are organized to labor, to be educated, to punish and to rehabilitate. Recently there are a large number of criminals in custody, with the low number of prison guards. It is hard to predict the activities localization of the prisoners accurately and real time. It will lead to lower management efficiency, and there are security risks. So it is important to adopt information technology to monitoring the prisoners’ activities.A design which solves the problem of the prisoners’ real time localization based on active RFID technology is proposed in the thesis. The system design can get real time and accurate positioning of the prison staffs, with functions of calling the roll, personal stroke monitoring and alarming.The thesis gives the study on localization algorithm based on the active RFID. The basis of localization is realized by means of traditional signal strength localization algorithm, and the path loss exponent is introduced to improve the location accuracy. The error which is caused by the surrounding environment factors such as occlusion and so on will be reduced. It gives the access to get the environmental loss exponent. The path loss exponent of each reader is calculated by the reference labels around each reader. And for the purpose of increasing the relative distance accuracy between the reader and the unknown tag, it is introduced to the localization algorithm to improve the positioning precision. The design of background management system based on active RFID localization is also shown in the thesis. The system consists of three modules, namely personnel information management module, personnel localization and monitoring module and event warning module. It realizes the prison system’s functions of calling the roll, personal stroke monitoring and alarming.After experimental validation of the algorithm, as well as the operation of background system, it verifies the feasibility of the management system.
