Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is a kind of automatic identification techniques, automatically identify objects by RF signal and free space coupling transmission characteristic. With the development of information technology, the applications of RFID increase rapidly and widely. RFID will become one of the fundamental technologies in the future information society. With the presentation and popularization of Logistics Network, All walks of life demand for ultra-high frequency(UHF) long-range RFID system, and it has become increasingly urgent. In China, the research and application of UHF long range passive tags is still in its infancy. During the following years of the development of Logistics Network, China will become one of the largest Electronic Product Code(EPC) consumers, and UHF RFID technology is just the core of EPC technologies. Therefore, this research is of great significance.The physical performance and standard of RFID tag chip are determined by its analog circuits, the task of this paper is to design a high-performance and low-power power management circuit of analog circuits for RFID tag chip.In this paper, the metrics associated with power management circuit of tag performance is illustrated and the corresponding optimization technologies are introduced. A high-performance and low-power power management circuit structure based on the sub-threshold MOSFETs for UHF RFID tag is proposed for the requirement of low power and wide work environment. Then, each module of power management circuit is analyzed and designed in detail. Finally the layout of analog front-end circuits is designed and some principles and methods of layout design are introduced.The ICs are implemented in TSMC0.18μm1P4M RF Mixsignal process. In the end, the test plan is summed up, measurements and results analysis on power management circuit and RFID tag are introduced.The innovations in this paper are that:1.The metrics of tag performance is illustrated and the corresponding optimization technologies are introduced.2. Proposed a new type voltage benchmark regulation circuit for UHF RFID tag chip based on the sub-threshold MOSFETs, which makes frequency varies a little with power supply voltage and process. The frequency stability of clock generator can be largely improved. It also can output stable voltage and bias current to other module of the tag chip with high precision.3.Designed a new type of power-supply circuit for EEPROM, which can generate stable output and with low power dissipation.
