The CATV network has a wide distribution in China, and the coaxial channel band below750MHz is used for broadcast and TV services while the band above750MHz (as called out-of-band of CATV network) hasn’t been used yet. HINOC(High performance Network over coax) is a new technology based on the existent CATV netwqrk, using the out-of-band of CATV network to provide bidirectional data transmission, with which a variety of services like IPTV and high-speed Internet Access will be offered to users. The MAC protocol of HINOC technology is mainly used to solve the problem of medium access control on shared channel.According to the target of HINOC technology, the functions and mechanisms of HIMAC protocol are presented and analyzed at first, based on which this paper mainly studies the bandwidth allocation mechanism and analyzes the throughput, transmission efficiency and delay of HIMAC protocol. Secondly, research is made on the implementation of HINOC system,in which the timing module is realized in detail, and in addition a MAC-PHY exchanging mechanism is proposed. Finally, the experiments on the performance of HIMAC is performed by means of HIMAC testing system. The results suggest that HIMAC protocol realize a channel access without collision and provides good throughput.
