A huge amount of network resources is available in our country's CATV network. CATV adopts coaxial cables to access houses, which possess large bandwidth advantage. It can provide not only multiplex analog TV signals, but also high speed Internet access service such as voice, data and image by making use of the spare bandwidth. Thus, to make use of coaxial cable network as access network is an ideal solution for broadband.Based on the application research project"HiNOC(High performance Network Over Coax) access technology research", this paper designs and develops broadband access device which makes use of coaxial cable as access medium to supply high speed network services for users.This paper begins with the discussion of MoCA protocol and the detailed introduction of the functions of MoCA protocol's Physical Layer, MAC Layer and Convergence Layer, followed by the design and realization of the HiNOC access device and the prime function and work principle of the modules. Finally, the design and realization of part of HiNOC access driver software are presented in the environment of embedded real time Operation System VxWorks'multitask. In practice testing, it is proved that the design of the software is correct.
