With the fast development of integrated circuits, the characteristic size of transistorshrinks rapidly. The growing complexity of circuits makes the synchronous designmethod exhibit limitations and drawbacks on design and manufacture. GALS(globallyasynchronous locally synchronous) design method gradually becomes a hot spot infields of SoC design, which can be regarded as a valuable complement to synchronousdesign method. Based on synchronous design scheme, it uses asynchronous designmethod to connect different modules, thus synchronous and asynchronous design cancomplement each other’s advantages. In this paper, a wide range of study is made in asynchronous circuit designprinciples, GALS system principles, methods and module design etc which lay thefoundation for GALS design.A novel high throughput GALS wrapper is proposed to improve the networkinterface performance of network on chip. To prevent the occurrence of data samplingerror, both the sender and receiver wrapper use the pausable clocking scheme to stop theclock when data come. The VC is based on Muller pipeline and chosen by the VCselector in the circuit. This wrapper can avoid the comparison between read pointer andwrite pointer in conventional design scheme and can increase the throughput.Simulations were based on SMIC0.18um CMOS technology, and the sender wrapperand receiver wrapper have the throughput as high as810Mflit/s and820Mflit/srespectively.
