The characteristics and general applications of low dropout linear regulator are presented in this article. The lower input voltage and larger load current application trend has posed some difficulties in both design and application of LDO. LDO architecture and Frequency domain analysis revealed how these difficulties are generated. A dynamic compensated low dropout linear regulator is proposed then. Load current tracking zero is used to compensate the LDO to make it stable under all kinds of load conditions. The uniform fast frequency response under all load current make is extremely suitable for high speed applications. NMOS pass element with charge pump driving technique provide low cost characteristic. Fully low supply voltage design enables it working under1.5V, well adapted to low power consumption design. The design simulation and tapeout benchtest results are provided in the final session.
