The paper presents the design of a radar simulator. Today, radar is one of the most important equipment in the battlefield. It is like the human eye, insight into the every movement. After completed the development of one radar system, a radar simulator is needed to test the function of the system. The radar simulator can effectively instead of the experiment which must be done in the test site. So it can save the cost of the research and development of the radar system. The radar simulator works mainly through a radar signal, to simulate the radar reflected wave. At the same time, Doppler modulation and Gaussian noise modulation can be used in the radar signal, because that can make the simulated situation more closer to the actual situation. In this paper, we design a radar simulator, it is mainly generated several typical radar signals:point-frequency continuous wave (single frequency sine wave), PD(Pulse Doppler)signal, linear frequency modulation signal, triangular wave signal, sawtooth signal, stepped frequency signal. In order to simulate the noise, this paper also designed a Gaussian noise frequency modulation signal. The digital signal processing algorithms mainly used in this paper is:Direct Digital Synthesizer, Digital Up Converter, an integer multiple of interpolation, polyphase filter. The work this paper have finished:(1) Introduced the scheme of the radar simulator and the principle of the radar.(2) Introduced the logic design of the typical radar signal, include the principles and methods implemented in the FPGA.(3) Introduced the principle and method of the Direct Digital Synthesizer.(4) The logic design of high sample rate intermediate frequency signal.(5) Introduced the principle of Gaussian noise and its logic design in FPGA.
