With economic development and improvement of living standards the concernof people health problem gradually changed into disease prevention and self-carefrom disease treatment, and the concern showed increasing tendency in recent years. Our country carried out the “Health China2020” strategy for improving publichealth which required all social forces to participate. Public library as nonprofitinstitutions joined in “Health China2020” strategy to play an important role inpublic education and information dissemination which provide people with healthinformation. Public library must be important part in national health developmentstrategy. Although health information services were provided in partly publiclibraries of country, the service model was not perfect and there was a great disparitycompared with foreign countries. In summary, we have done this study to knowabout the situation of service model and provide some proper suggestion.Firstly, the study was established with pectination of related theories based onliterature.Secondly, we have investigated public library website and analyzed the servicefeature and operation model of health information. We get the following results:(1)The health information service models of foreign libraries were rich andcolorful and the health information service forms were manifold. Relativity, thoughhealth information service models of our libraries were manifold, the quantities ofservice were less. Health information service not carried out in our libraries involvedauxiliary health indicators examination, health information services newsstand andhealth information service center website.(2)Health information service of foreign libraries was more directed topopulation.(3)The support of money and manpower was more adequate.Third, literature analysis and questionnaire survey were employed to comprehend the demand of public library readers on health information and service. The findings are as follows:(1)The most demanded type among all readers was “inform of self-awarenesson health issues”, the least demanded type was “health evaluation”.(2)More demanded health information service was “physical examinationprovided by library and disease control agency” and “professional assistanceprovided by medical and health librarian”. Less demanded health information servicewas “health seminar/lecture given by library” and “photocopy/borrow/universalborrow/medical and health books/material”. The demand on health information wassignificantly different according to different age, career and education background.Fourth, two aspect of this survey were supply and demand: native library healthinformation supply and native library readers’ demand on health information, theresult of variation analysis showed that “professional service provided by medicaland health librarian”,“personal medical and health system established on librarywebsites” and “medical and health information acquired through the means of phonecall” were highly demanded, which unfortunately were not provided by our publiclibraries.Last, according to theories associated with service mode, combining theconclusions from this research, a new information service mode of public health thatappeals to our native demands was established, and strategic advices were made.
