Laser ranging technology is a non-contact industrial measurement technology. It becomes an irreplaceable new type of technology in whether industrial areas or living construction applications areas, and there is a lot of need for this technology in varies kind of areas.Nowadays, we do a lot of research for the laser rangefinders to be moving higher measurement accuracy, safer and easier user experience, and smaller system energy consumption. However, in the field of laser ranging technology, we still have a lager gap from the European, American and Japanese and other developed countries. The most of the high-end products on the market all from Europe, America and Japan, and the prices are more expensive. Therefore the important issue to be solved is to develop our own laser rangefinders which must be higher measurement accuracy, safer and easier user experience, and smaller system energy consumption.In this paper, using optical triangulation method as the theoretical basis of the study design, detailed analysis and comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of direct light incident method and oblique light incident method. According to the research design requirements, choose direct light incident method as the theoretical approach of this paper, also analyzed and discussed in detail for theoretical calculation of the coordinates of the center of mass of the laser spot algorithm.At the beginning, the author made the simulation test according to this theory. The measured data of the device for simulating verify the feasibility of the theory in this paper. Then the detail design of the hardware portion and software portion has been made based on the laser triangulation subtend system principle. Part of the hardware select semiconductor laser and camera based on the CMOS image sensor as a major hardware to complete the design requirements of this paper. Software part preparation of PC ranging through PC programming software Visual Basic and the result of the display interface.Finally, this research completed the experimental measurements, the kind of precision ranging system of laser triangulation study design and the measured experimental data analysis and research, and research work summary and outlook.
