Research On Jiu Wang Qing Bao Newspaper

Jiu Wang Qing Bao is a B3-size weekly published before China’s War of Resistance against Japan. It was founded in Shanghai in May1936, by Jiu Guo Hui, which was a citizens’ organization established based on the needs of resistance against Japan. In the beginning Jiu Wang Qing Bao was the official newspaper of Shanghai Jiu Guo Hui, and after a while it became the official newspaper of the National Jiu Guo Hui. The newspaper has published30conventional issues and4extra editions from May to December1936, with a weekly circulation of7,000to10,000.Jiu Wang Qing Bao was the major propaganda front of the movement of saving the nation from extinction. And it had a unique status in the history of Chinese modern journalism. Speeches, actions and public letters made by many famous people, including Song Qingling, He Xiangning, Zhang Naiqi, Tao Xingzhi and Li Gongpu, were concluded in Jiu Wang Qing Bao. Moreover, Jiu Wang Qing Bao published a lot of news reports, comments, declarations and public letters about the process, details and reactions of several significant history events, such as the establishment of the National Jiu Guo Hui, wars of Northeast Yi Yong Jun army against Japan, the death of Lu Xun, the Event of Qi Jun Zi, Xi’an Incident, and so on.Under the no-resistance policy and press censorship of the government, Jiu Wang Qing Bao had to choose a half secret way to function. The newspaper office didn’t have a steady address, and all the staff, with a total number of six to seven, are part-time employees. In spite of such disadvantages, Jiu Wang Qing Bao showed a high level of news reporting, for it has complete and various news types, a neutral position, and a broad perspective.Jiu Wang Qing Bao is a newspaper with both history material value and journalism value, while its value has not been witnessed. Papers or research on Jiu Wang Qing Bao cannot be found at this moment. Some papers related to Jiu Wang Qing Bao contain some mistakes. And this paper aims at filling the blank by making research on Jiu Wang Qing Bao in the frame of journalism.This paper concentrates on all the34issues of Jiu Wang Qing Bao, making research from three different perspectives of history, text and idea. To begin with, Chapter1uses literature methodology to conclude the publishing history of Jiu Wang Qing Bao, especially the nature of the newspaper and the organizational and operational methods of the office, and that is half secret, finite staff and different distribution channels.Chapter2is the main part of the paper. Through quantitative and qualitative analysis, the chapter focuses on all the814articles in Jiu Wang Qing Bao, in order to make research on the programs, layout, article genres, news sources and news content in it. In the aspect of article genres, Jiu Wang Qing Bao has various genres and genres with special characteristics. News reports and comments are the two major genres. In the aspect of news sources, original articles are the majority of articles. The sources of short news are various, and most comments are original. In the aspect of news content, the theme of Jiu Wang Qing Bao is the movement of saving the nation from extinction, and it criticizes the government directly. It also shows an international viewpoint, and shows news related to many different areas in the world.In Chapter3, by text analysis, the paper proposes the news ideas, editing conceptions and characteristics. Jiu Wang Qing Bao has the idea of objectivity, neutrality and criticism. It also has the conception of diversification and Internationalization. The major characteristics of the newspaper can be concluded as "seven persons’ newspaper, all the citizens’ newspaper".At last, the last chapter concludes the various values, the possible future research directions, and the practical guidance of the newspaper.
