The remote meter reading system has an important significance in the industry control field. In our country, in many industry cases, especially for some distributed and no watcher locales, we need to read meter at fixed time. Traditional meter reading system always consumes vast amounts of manpower and material or needs to construct and maintain the wire or wireless communication network. The uncertain of meter reading time and the asynchronous of meter reading are unfavorable to the scientific analysis and statistics of electricity consumption. So a remote meter reading system based on GPRS is proposed in this paper.The design and implementation of GPRS-based remote meter reading system software is introduced in this thesis. The system consists of three parts, including meter reading terminal, communication network and data center. The hardware of remote meter reading terminal is based on C8051F MCU and PTM100GPRS module. Communication network of system is based on GPRS. The functions of system are realized by software of remote meter reading terminal and data center. Remote meter reading terminal follows DL/T645communication protocols, and reads data from meter accurately in real time and transmits them to remote data center through GPRS module. Data center receives data in real time, and provides services of data monitoring, trend curves, report generation, system management and so on. So the system can not only ensure the instantaneity and accuracy of meter reading, but also can provide data support for the statistic, analysis and management of the electric power information.Firstly, the development background of the system and relevant technologies are introduced in this paper. Then, the overall system design is given according to the system analysis, and designs of meter reading terminal, communication network and data center are also given, which includes hardware and software of meter reading terminal, communication network structure, architecture and function design of data center software and so on. Then the implementations of meter reading terminal software and data center software are emphasized. According to the division of function modules before, detailed implementation and key technologies are described. Then, the system test process is conducted. Finally, the conclusion of this paper and the outlook are given for further study.
