With the further development of Virtual Realiy application, virtual environmentis asked to have more and more realism and complexity, however, this requrement hasbeen far beyond the real-time processing ability of the computer graphics hardware. Thus, so far there is an urgent need to solve the contradiction between real-timeinteraction and complexity, realism in virtural envieronment. In this dissertation, withvirtual city system as application background, this thesis studied and implemented theacceleration techniques for virtual scene rending. This paper first researched the principle of texture mapping and proposed theapplication of multi-resolutional texture and concave-convex texture in boostingscene painting. And then, the paper researched the principle of lighting models andproposed using shader programming to improve painting efficiency. The traditional virtual systems adopt static or dynamic levels of detail models, but this article proposed adopting to combine static and dynamic LOD together, according to the difference of model accuracy. It’s not only to solve the virsual jumpduring model switching, but also control the amount of storage. The thesis also proposed a new indexing method in Virtual system database. Themethod is improved based on R-tree index, and mainly for regular rectangular area. The irregular terrain block of its edge can be used invalid data to padding. Because ofregular zone, there is no overlap during the data loading process, thereby, it increasesthe speed of data loading. In this dissertation, it presented a desktop virtual reality roaming framework, designed the system architecture, functional structure and roaming strategy. Modelingby3DSMAX, Virtools build part of digital city roaming system. In the system, basedon above methods to accelerate rendering the scene, it abtains satisfactory results.
