Guokr, a social media centering on science and technology, was founded in2010when China’s microblogging debuts. In the media environment characteristic of dramatic growth of microblogging, Guokr comes into ever-growing public notice and makes a successful propaganda by replying on its carrier-Guokr’s microblogging. It resolves scientific queries from its followers in parallel with being active in cracking and curbing internet rumors. Thus, a new model of science communication was formed. By exploiting both quantitative&qualitative research through questionnaire surveys on followers of Guokr’s microblogging, this thesis attempts to rectify in theory traditional perception on followers phenomenon via defining similarities and differences between Guokr’s followers and traditional followers. We intend to grasp characteristics of microblogging of Guokr in communication by text analysis, and explore its significance for science communication and microblogging marketing. Finally this thesis also contemplates the future outlook for microblogging. Since there are no unified theories on new media research, microblogging in particular, we combine a variety of theoretical approaches in this research and hope to contribute to subsequent researchers.
