As the fast development of wireless communication and the population of various communication products, more and more requirements for antenna, such as wide bandwidth, low loss, small size, low cost and so on, have been proposed. The traditional antenna is limited because of large size in the low frequency and high loss in the high frequency. Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) as a new antenna, compared with the conversional antennas, has a great deal of advantages, such as small size, high efficiency, low cost, light weight and so on. Thanks to this, the DRA has been paid close attention to and widely used in wireless communication nowadays. This thesis mainly is composed by the following parts:At first, introduce the research status and main directions on dielectric resonator antenna including the DRA structure, feed, wideband bandwidth, circular polarized and high gain. Take rectangle DRA for example to analyze the fundamental principles on DRA. Various kinds of feed mechanisms is discussed, including their strengths and weaknessesThen emphatically analyze and classify the methods to broaden the bandwidth.Based on the research about the dielectric resonator antenna and with the practical application, propose two dielectric wideband antennas working on the frequency range between470MHz and860MHz. One utilizes high permittivity dielectric substrate, with symmetrical semiellipse metal patches placed on its upper and lower surfaces. The bandwidth is broadened due to gradient characteristic of the elliptic curve. The other use the conical antenna loaded with dielectric to achieve wideband bandwidth. In this design, the copper cylinder offset the capacitive effect between the cap and ground; the dielectric load can increase the effective length and decrease the size of the antenna. Give the model to analyze the principle for broadening the bandwidth. After the simulation, the return loss, bandwidth, frequency, impedance match and radiation can satisfy with the requirements and be used as vehicle mounted and hand-held TV antenna.
