Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) has many advantages and benefits over conventional antennas, which make DRA suitable for modern wireless communication applications.Firstly this paper discusses particularly the methods to estimate the resonant frequency of DRA after introducing the basic concepts and theories of DRA., and then makes an amendment on the method to estimate the resonant frequency of the Multi-Segment DRA (MSDRA). Basing on analyzing the simulation data and the data from another paper, a modifying factor is added to the original formula. Then using the modified formula, we recalculate all the data and the results show that the modifying factor is effective. The estimation accuracy increases by more than 30%.Secondly a variety of feed mechanisms are analyzed, including the specific configurations, advantages and disadvantages and other factors involved in DRA design.Lastly two new antenna configurations are proposed for 802.11a and Personal Communication System (PCS) applications respectively. One is excited by a microstrip-slot coupling feed structure that locates away from the center of substrate and dielectric resonator. The other is fed by microstrip line with a loading strip and a vertical strip is adhibited on the dielectric resonator. The two proposed configurations exhibit larger 10dB bandwidth. Also the return loss, radiation pattern and gain of the two DRAs are investigated.
