After a long period of development of the Internet, it has changing the worlddramatically. With the growing demand, the shortage of IPv4address space has become abottleneck of Internet. ICANN announced the global IPv4address is allocated andexhausted in early2011, which shows the importance and necessity of the development ofIPv6. IPv6has many new features which provide a good support for the next generationInternet applications and development.Deployment of IPv6network construction is the focus of the current and futurenetwork foundation development. Because of the deference of Structure and requirementsbetween the IPv4and IPv6, the transition should be in a very long period of time. So howto transition smoothly to IPv6is a necessary problem. In order to meet the developmenttrend of information technology in education, research the IPv4to IPv6transitionsolutions of campus network has important practical application of significance. This paper describes the current distribution of global IPv4address, analysis thedisadvantages of IPv4and advantages of IPv6, then studied the three main IPv4to IPv6transition technology: Dual protocol technology, Tunnel and Address translationtechnology, describes their working principle and application scenarios detailly. For thisparticular campus network environment, research and analysis the design of IPv6transition solution, detailing the difficulties and principles in the IPv6transition process, also has some analysis in campus network level and routing design. Campus NetworkIPv6transition process will be divided into three stages, according to different networkenvironments of each stage, using the existing environmental and laboratory equipment, integration of the transition technology, design a variety of network diagram under thedifferent applications, test and analysis each of them. Hope to provide some references toIPv6transition for the campus network.
