The Internet scale is expanding rapidly. The IPv4 address is gradually using up. Internet confronts with many problems: the scale, the security, the QoS, etc... These problems show the new Internet protocol will replace IPv4 necessarily. As the next generation Internet protocol, IPv6 has some new characteristics. It will provide more perfect support the next generation Internet. It has widely future for applications and development.Building the IPv6 network is very hot these years. Chongqin city built the Municipal Area Trial Networks base on IPv6 in 2004. Over 10 universities jointed together to build the IPv6 network in Nanjin. N-SHERNET was built in Shanghai in 2005 which is the biggest network based on IPv4/IPv6 dual-stacks at that time. Many famous universities have built the IPv6 campus network, for example the Tsinghua University, Beijing University, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiaotong University etc. The networks provide various services, applications and test environment. Yet, Shenzhen which is one of the most modern cities in China has not built IPv6 MAN. The Shenzhen municipal government decided to build the IPv6 MAN in 2005. Shenzhen University Town (SUT) was selected as the core of MAN. The work started in 2006.Design the IPv6 network in SUT is the background of this paper.At first, the paper introduces the IPv6 protocols briefly, including some new characteristics: the IPv6 addressing architecture, address auto configuration, the security mechanism, etc...Then, the general IPv6 network design and implement principle was introduced.Finally, the IPv6 campus network of SUT was designed which based on the analysis of requirement and the next generation network implement principle. In the paper, the author introduces many items in details: network layers, equipment choice, network address plan, wireless network system, network management system.Now, the network has been building partly. A lot of creative technologies have been adopted, including wireless network system based on SIP, IPv4/IPv6 integrative network management.
