Computer Internet (Internet), after several decades of rapid development, the world today has brought about tremendous changes for the future of social progress and development will also have an enormous impact. As computer networks primarily IPv4 protocol has been very mature and become the cornerstone of the computer network. However, as the network size and application needs continues to expand, based on the IPv4 protocol in the practical applications of computer networks increasingly exposed its many deficiencies. So was the work of the IPv6 protocol (IETF) to replace IPv4 designed as IP protocol agreement next version. In 2004, based on the second-generation IPv6 protocol China Education and Research Network (CERNET2) and the opening of marks institutions of higher learning campus network' s development has entered a new era. Although some domestic colleges and universities have begun upgrading the campus network, and in the transition to IPv6 network stage, but most of the IPv6 technology is not familiar with the schools and units, in order to keep up with the pace of the information age, information to the development of education trend, based on the campus network smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6 technology in the future upgrading of the campus network has important practical application of significance. In this paper, the IPv6 protocol and the related ICMPv6 agreement, IPv6 routing protocol and IPv6 security mechanism to conduct a detailed analysis, the next generation of Internet technology applied to the core of a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of understanding, at present the three major research IPv4/IPv6 transition technology, detailed description of thei(?) works. On this basis, the design of a gateway based on the conversion of the transition, given the principle of the system design, module division and workflow. And use of the existing network environment equipped with an IPv6 host interconnects, and the three main IPv4/IPv6 transition technology an experiment to test the IPv4 to IPv6 network the possibility of a smooth transition for the erection IPv6 campus network to make technical reserves and providing realistic reference. The final analysis the campus network transition to IPv6 three stages in the process, as well as the transition process in three different application needs, the current IPv4 common institutions of higher learning campus network topology as an example, the integration of technology, discussed in detail the increase the possibility of IPv6 network, and designed the framework of IPv6 network programme.
