21century is hydrogen era, the proton exchange membrane fuel cell whichused hydrogen as fuel has a broad market and application. Membrane electrode assembly is core of the fuel cell and its performance and manufacturing is mostimportant.Continuous laminating equipment for fuel cell membrane electrode(SEAL equipment) is one of the key equipment in the production line. Thecontent of this paper is the research and development of the tension controlsystem for transportation of Ultra-thin flexible substrates in SEALequipment. The main contributions of this paper can be summarized as follow:(1)By analyzing the tension requirements and fluctuation mechanism ofSEAL equipment, the tension distributed control scheme is given. The tensiondynamic models in both double-roll transport mechanisms andwinding/unwinding mechanisms and the mathematical model of servo systemsare deduced and built.(2)Design the tension control systems of nip rollers transport mechanisms,winding/unwinding mechanisms and integrated design the overall tensioncontrol system of whole equipment.(3)The effect of tension control in nip rollers web-feeding mechanismimpacts on the performance of lamination. Fuzzy PID control scheme isdesigned to achieve the high-precision tension control in double-roll transportmechanisms.(4)Serious electromagnetic interference in tension feedback signalsincreases the difficulty of tension control. An analog filter circuit is built basedon test and analysis. The contributions and conclusions in this paper are tested and verified inmany simulations and experiments. The results are validated and are being usedin SEAL equipment.
