Today, the PID control technology is still the most popular and commercially available type used in the ship's engine room process control. Such as Main Engine Fuel Oil Viscosity Control System(MEFOVCS) , Cool Water temperature Control.We know the PID arithmetict is widely applied in industrial process control for its simple arithmetict , good robustness and high dependability .But the effection of PID control is inperfect for those complex system with non-linear, time varying and big hysteresis.The MEFOVCS is the type of system .So This article researches two intelligent PID control algorithms carefully to improve control quality for MEFOVCS,which one is tuning PID parameters based on the Fuzzy and another is tuning PID parameters based on the LQ criterion.Firstly, this article anylizes the model of fuel oil viscosity control system. And the major parts of system have been studied indepth, including steam heater, excuator and measurer. A simulink model has been set up in MATLAB /simulink. Secondly, this article researchs the above intelligent PID control algorithms for fuel oil viscosity system. All control algorithms have been developed and simulated with MATLAB, in which the comparing within these algorithms has been made in detail. Finally,a simulation experiment with part of hardware has done.The results of simulations and experiments show that the intelligent controllers are self-adptive and have the robust character for the change of the model parameters as MEFOVCS.
