With the development of Earth-oriented remote sensing technology and Deepspace exploration technology, star sensor, remote sensing camera and spectrometerneed optical imaging device which has large field, simple structure and simpleperipheral circuits. At present,CCD and CMOS are the two kinds commonly usedarray photodetector. CMOS image sensor is a new type image sensor which has beendeveloping rapidly. Compared with CCD,it has distinguish superiority inmanufacturing cost, function integration and power consumption. It is important todesign and analyze the imaging system which is based on CMOS image sensor.CMOS image sensor’s history,features, performance and working principle werepresented in this thesis. The comparison between CMOS and CCD were alsointroduced.In the sysytem design,The CYPRESS CMOS image sensor,IBIS5-B-1300,was used as the image core.Its unique two shutter mode(rolling shutterand snapshot shutter) was discussed,and its working principle and working timingwere analyzed. On the above analysis, the timing control circuit wasdesigned.Choosing the Spartan3FPGA chip XC3S50of Xilinx as the hardware designplatform,the timing of different configuration and shutter mode was simulated.Region-Of-Interest (ROI) read out was implemented as well as the full frame readout.In the design of hardware circuit,the front imaging circuit and the back timingcontrol circuit were separated in two boards.In this way,the timing control circuit canbe easily regulated with no change of the front imaging circuit. LDO (Low DropoutRegulator) was used as power supply for the system to ensure power stability.Experiments showed that the imaging system can work steadily,its powerconsumption was low,and its imaging Performance was pretty good.In the end of the thesis,some experience and advertency were listed, which wereuseful for the disign in the future.
