With the rapid development of a variety of information technology, people have putforward higher requirements for portable and stable performance of video surveillancesystems. Therefore, it is particularly important for the Research and Design of digital videosurveillance system base on the embedded. Research and design of this monitoring systemcan complete some function that the traditional analog surveillance systems can not beachieved function, so digital video surveillance is constantly replacing analog monitoring. Ithas been widely used in traffic, bank, hospital, video conferencing, and other fields.Therefore, as the important component of the security system, embedded-application will beone important research direction for the fields of video monitor.This system is developed based on the ARM microprocessor hardware platform andembedded Linux operating system software environment. First of all, develop and compilethe application of the key modules in the Linux operating system. Secondly it complete thecapture and compression of video data in the Linux operating system, finally it completestasks of video data transmission through the network. In order to reduce the volume ofproducts and reduce the cost of products, the system uses the ARM9(S3C2440) as the mainprocessor, Vimicro company’s ZC0301-chip-based USB camera as the video capturingequipment.The design focused on the bulid of the cross-compile environment, the transplantationof BootLoader, the configuration, compilation, transplantation of Linux kernel in theembedded environment, the bulid of root file system, and USB digital camera drivertransplantation. And with the the V4L provided by the Linux operating system interfacefunctions to complete the acquisition of part of the application to write and call of the opensource Xvid and JRTPLIB library completed the video data compression and networktransmission.Finally, we complete the whole system performance test in the LAN and analyze theclient receives the image. The test results show that the system basically achieve functions ofmonitor and requirements of customers of the stability and real-time.
