Inner Mongolia, although with vast territory, the amount of precipitation in some areasis quite limited, and the number of natural reservoirs are also quite few, which led to theserious water situation there. Since a long time ago, people used to rely on one local well forwater supply in one village or several villages, however, the water quality is questionable,together with the lagging production equipment, the demand of local people on domesticwater supply is far from been satisfied.Aim to provide domestic water for people in villages and towns, great financial supporthas been carried out by the nation, and central domestic water supply system has beenestablished. This project was selected from a village domestic water supply system in thewest Inner Mongolia. In order to ensure the quality of water, water source wells are far fromwaterworks, and quite distributed, some are even in the mountain area or desert boundary,which results in a great number and uneven distributed monitor points. Direct connection ofthese monitor points with cables will cause the initial investment increase greatly, alsotogether with rise up of manufacture and maintenance cost.According to this situation, wireless telecommunication technology was adopted tocontrol and monitor this water supply system. Since the requirement of real-timeperformance control on the water source wells is high, thus, data radio was used to here. Forthe network management system, real-time control is not necessary, so GPRStelecommunication is adopted.Along with the increase of automatization, it is extremely not convenient and efficientto collect water meter readings house by house. This project is based on intelligent watermeter, and use GPRS network to automatic transfer water meter readings.In the research work above, we combine data transfer radio and GPRStelecommunication, realized the remote control and monitor for waterworks supply system,which greatly increases the water supply efficiency. Intelligent water meter help releaseworkers from laborious physical work. The whole system with low initial investment, butincreased system efficient, is considered valuable in small size water supply system forvillages and towns.
