Taiwan's Main Newspaper Editorials In Cross-strait Relations Landscape Research

At the beginning of2011, Taiwan recovered from the global financial tsunamiand economic situation also improved obviously. Especially, Economic CooperationFrame Work Agreement (ECFA) is to fully implement and be paying off that leads thecross-strait relationships to a new era. But at the same time, the development ofcross-straits relations also faces to the new challenges: the ECFA negotiations ofeconomic, transactional issues between Mainland and Taiwan gradually step into the"deep water"; and moreover, because of the uncertainty of Taiwan’s election, Beijingwill involve in a new battle on adhering the92Consensus and against the TaiwanConsensus of DPP (Democratic Progressive Party). Therefore, in the course of thedevelopment of cross-strait relations, the year of2011is really a key link between thepreceding and the following.During the history of the cross-strait, media is one of the most important role inthe exchanging and communication between both sides. And because of thecharacteristics of newspapers, instead of news pieces, they will utilize the editorials todeeply criticize the reality, arouse readers thinking problem, and reflect publicopinion.Therefore, this study will examine the media as a social observer system how toreproduce the view of relations across the Taiwan straits in Taiwan. This paper tries topresent the real cross-strait relations of Taiwanese’s eyes by choosing three mainlynewspapers’ editorials in Taiwan including Apple Daily, Liberty Times and UnitedDaily News as the research objects and investigating and analysing these editorialsbetween January1,2011to June30,2011.So we can know Taiwan people and mediabetter.
