To achieve the peaceful reunification of the two sides of the Taiwan Straits is what generations of Chinese are concerned about and strive for.After several decades of efforts,progress has been made in cross-strait economic and cultural exchanges.But many factors have widened the gap between them in terms of social,cultural and value-related concepts;for example,they have completely different social systems,the historical issues can not be resolved,the Taiwan authorities have carried out de-chinization policies,anti-mainland propaganda and education for a long time,and Taiwan media's reportage is seriously green-leaning.Therefore,in order to promote cross-strait cultural exchanges at present,,it is necessary to find a soft way to influence Taiwan.In recent years,many mainland TV series were also hits in Taiwan,an epitome of the heated cultural exchanges cross the straits.Taking TV drama as the carrier,those hit series propargate indirectly national ideas,value priorities,and national culture,while projecting social problems.All these are the influences of cultural soft power and can strike a chord among the Taiwanese audience.The paper is a study of the popularity of mainland TV drama in Taiwan from the perspective of cultural soft power's dissemination.Employing the cultural soft power theory,the author of the paper analyzes and summarizes the shaping and dissemination of cultural soft power behind the above-mentioned phenomenon.The cultural influences of mainland TV series are demonstrated,and the current study also provides a reference and inspiration for subsequent relevant research.The Introduction of the paper expatiates the origin of the topic,the purpose of the study and the significance of the study,reviews the existing literature on the topic and introduces the research methodology.Chapter II briefly introduces the broadcasting of the mainland TV series in Taiwan,mainly in terms of the type of hit series,broadcast review,ratings status,popularity among audiences and Taiwan media's feedback.Chapter III focuses on the reasons for the mainland TV series' popularity in Taiwan,including the production,broadcasting and introduction of TV series at the Taiwan TV drama market,mainland TV series' advantages in terms of production and broadcasting,and the two sides' same-root culture.Chapter IV is the main body of the paper,in which the cultural soft power's influences behind mainlan TV series'popularity in Taiwan are analyzed and demonstrated.Chapter V summarizes the contributions,innovations and limitations of the paper.Based on the above research,the author of this paper holds that the mainland TV drama's being popular in Taiwan is an important type of cultural soft power,and can exert a subtle influence on the Taiwan audience.Using TV drama as the carrier is helpful to establish an one-China image,spread the national culture and mould the image of China's mainland.Therefore,TV drama as a cultural product plays an important part in in promoting cross-straits cultural exchanges,harmony and unity.The phenomenon is worthy of further subsequent research.
