From protecting employees, local communities or corporate reputation to preventingfinancial losses due to production disruptions: today’s companies are faced with a multitudeof security-related challenges. Any disruption to production, businesses or transportation,whether it is natural or a deliberate attempt to cause damage or theft, costs industries billionsof dollars every year, not to mention the potential cost to human lives or the environment.Ensuring the safety of your staff and the community as well as maintaining the businesscontinuity requires effective planning, communication and resource coordination of allactions from a single point.The Physical Security Information System (PSIM) is comprehensive securitymanagement solution designed with advanced network, communication and softwaretechnologies. It can integrate a broad variety of sub-systems and can be customized accordingto your organizational set up, policies and processes. It offers precisely the kind of real-timesupport functions and the information needed to react effectively to security and safetyincidents at any time. This solution is specifically designed to support security management atcritical infrastructure sites, industrial complexes or campus-type (e.g. University)environments.In this essay, the application and developing uptrend of enterprise PSIM system isstudied. Prior to the studying of PSIM concept and core elements and functionalities, thewhole system architecture of physical security management system is gained. Furthermore,the N-tiers software architecture is designed by selecting Java EE technologies and its MVC model. The event management based workflow is the essence of physical securityinformation management system platform. P2DR model is translating into PSIM with thereference of the concept. PSIM composes prevention, protection/detection, response andrecover. Synchronously, Subjecting to detailed business flow parse, we have the four phasesof core business flow, including event catch-up, event handling, real-time supervision andstatus feedback, post-event statistic and report. Based on the technologies study andrequirements analysis, it is achieved that design and realize the Java EE based workflowengine. After a detail analysis of WFMS specification, this paper is aimed at designing anddeveloping workflow engine upon the platform of Java EE and Web service. In themeanwhile, the modules of workflow engine are introduces in detail via UML design,includes process, implement, control and XPDL parse modules etc.The OPC technologies and Web Service technologies are studies particularly as well themain technologies for gathering data from automation control systems and disparate systems.As the output the integration architecture of PSIM is achieved. Finally, this OPC interface ofPSIM is realized in the application of the true project.Furthermore, the design and application of the integrated security information systemhas been applied in the customer’s safety and security project successfully. The companyimproves their management level significantly at security and product safety by integratingwith new and existing management systems, and optimizing their management processes.
