The Early Warning System of Mudslides (EWSM) is developed on the core processorhardware platform of MSP430F149SCM out of MSP430SCM ranges of TI, with the FPGAchip EP3C16Q240C8of ALTERA CYCLONE III series. The designing of the hardwaresystem covers four parts, namely, MSP430F149SCM together with peripheral circuit,accessory rainfall transducer, FPGA circuit, ZigBee wireless data transmission module andGSM module. About the software, the designing includes, control codes and data comparison&storage of MSP430F149SCM via C Language, control codes of FPGA inside test modulevia Verilong HDL language and control of PC software interface via Lab Windows/CVI. Theoutstanding function of EWSM is that it makes judgments and then provides correspondingsolutions after analyzing the data collected ere the mudslides occur, thanks to the scientificdesigning to the forecast and warning systems, which makes EWSM both meaningful andworthy.Collection and transmission of data and automatic early warning of EWSM areconducted by ZigBee wireless data transmission module and GSM message packagecommunication module. These two modules are the base for the designing of mudslidewarning zone which turns the core of the whole system. Due to the remarkable performancesand internal resources of the two modules which contribute to the stability of operation,EWSM guarantees prompt reactions and precautionary actions to oncoming disasters, largelyreducing the economic loss and casualty.The principles mentioned above, as well as the key points, thinking and methodology ofthe designing are elaborated in this paper. Besides, design for each unit module is carried outrespectively and this system is proved feasibly operational with relevant material evidences.Given the studies, designing and modification to all the modules, it’s concluded from the teststhat EWSM has reached the target of real-time data collection, procession and early warning.
