With the development of fiber optic's quality and performance,the application of fiber optic has spread over medical,transport,communication,service,military,entertainment,energy,and education field,etc.Especially in communication network,the fiber optic transport network will be at a very important status.As fiber optic commucation technology being promoted vastly,the measurement and maintenance becomes more and more important.It pose a big problem to measure the exact fault location of a bunch of fiber optic for fiber cable's examing,repair and maintenance.This thesis designs a portable fiber optic fault location based on MSP430.First,the thesis simply stated the rapid improvement of fiber optic communication and the corresponding demand on fiber optic measure device.The subsequent section states the theory of the design,such as fiber's structure,class,loss and reason,and the equation to determine fiber's loss.It also states several methos to measure fiber optic's loss,and lead to the consequence that we use backscatter of a fiber to desing and produce a fiber optic fault locator.The normal preferences and index performance of a fiber fault location is stated.In the third and fourth chapter,a detailed statement of the hardware and software implement of a fiber fault locator is stated.In the third chapter,the detaied circuit diagram and corresponding function is stated,including key switch power,MSP430F1611 MCU and periperal circuit,the FPGA circuit,laser diode tranmitter circuit,photo diode detect circuit,and loudspeaker circuit,etc.The software programming is much relevant to the hardware circuit.In the fourth chapter,it first stated the software and hardware developing tools.Then,the programming process and flow chart,and the process how to measure and display the fault location.And in the last chapter of the thesis,the ultimate consequence and the real product is stated,the major problem during the entire design process is conclude here.The thesis designs the fiber optic fault locator based on fiber backscatter theory.In the whole equipment design process,low power dissipation is taken much importance.By using some algorithem during signal acquisition and processing,the measure accuracy and time cost is under a near perfect situation.At last produce a set of fiber optic fault locator which can used in commercial field.
