The development of human is inseparable from the ocean. The ocean provides human withnot only abundant food resources, but also plenty of untapped minerals and oil. The ocean canadjust the weather, and have profound impact on the whole ecological system of the earth. A largeamount of information and data are accumulated during the process of human’s increasinglyacknowledgement on the ocean. Especially in recent decades, marine data is explosively grown. These ocean data belong to different scientific research institutions and in different formats, whichobstructs the marine data sharing. Meanwhile, these data and material still exist problems inpolysemy, synonyms, and the terminology classification is not clear. As the conceptual model of clear formal specification, the ontology can solve the aboveproblems. Ontology is introduced to the marine ecological field, and has made some achievements.Based on this, the marine ecological system in the dynamic process is put forward based on theOWL-P marine ecological ontology construction method. OWL-P describes the dynamic functionof the material circulation, energy flow and the food web based on the marine ecological staticknowledge to make the whole marine ecological process more accurate and complete. Then, basedon the marine ecological function ontology that has already set, the corresponding system isdeveloped, which uses Java platform, Jena and XML analytical technology to write programs forontology retrieval. The browse of function ontology and the inquiry of marine ecological functionconcept can be realized by this system.
