| As China’s opening up deepens, comprehensive big news could no longer satisfy the various demandsof information from the international audiences, so that local news which carry interest and proximityhave become a vital channel of external communication, especially because they have a strong capacityto carry culture. Therefore, the research into local news of our country’s English language media has animportant significance.The English language newspaper Global Times has begun publishing its Metro Shanghai edition sinceApril,2010, which is published as a supplementary edition to the main Global Times. Metro Shanghaitargets foreigners living in Shanghai and focuses on the local news happened in Shanghai, as a way toexpand the influence of the main newspaper, which provides a new idea of our country’s externalcommunication.This thesis is going to study the local news of Metro Shanghai of Global Times, based on the writer’sintern experiences and relevant theories. Research methods involved include field observation,interview method, content analyses and case study.It was found that Metro Shanghai has obvious features in reporting subjects and tendencies. Late in theChapter five the write has analyzed the development bottle of Metro Shanghai, and has proposed somesuggestions.It is highly expected that the research on local news of Metro Shanghai of Global Times could be usedas reference to the development of Chinese local English Language newspaper. |
