The end of the19th century and the early20th century, Western countries have launched a movement to protect animals, plants and resources. Since the1960s, the term environment began to be widely accepted and use. Mid-and late80s, the third world countries which including China have joined environmental organizations. With the continued in-depth development of globalization, environmental issues has become the key issues of the world’s major media, and also a fashionable hot topic for the people around the world.Founded in1851, New York Times was praised as "represents the highest achievements of the penny press during the period" by United States News historian Mott. After150years of development, the newspaper has become the United States even the world’s most authoritative and credible media, won the highest award of the American press Pulitzer Prize for104times. As the birthplace of environment News’ major newspaper, New York Times outstanding contributions to the history of the development of environmental news. Prior to1960, the newspaper appeared on the comments of the environmental problems, conservation column publicity resources related to environmental protection movement to protect and advocate was popular. To1969, New York Times set up specialized in environmental reports and a number of media to follow suit. I selected the original English reports from2007to2011for the sake of the major events reported including the Beijing Olympic Games, the Wenchuan earthquake, Copenhagen, Cancun, Durban World Climate Conference were reported. Using a combination of quantitative research and qualitative research methods, journalism, sociology, and environmental ethics theory, analysis of the mainstream American media New York Times how to report China environmental news. What are the characteristics of this way of reporting the causes and inadequacies. Learning advanced concepts, writing techniques in Western journalism for our journalists for reference. Meanwhile, this paper slightly express the author’s support for environmental protection. Paper structure and the chapters content are as follows:Chapter1Introduction:background and purpose of the research, the research methods and programs; Chapter2, quantitative analysis of New York Times environmental reporting:from the genre, sources, reported range, pictures using four aspects to sample the detailed analysis of datas and charts on the basis of the whole environment status; Chapter3, New York Times environmental reporting content analysis:the use of frame theory from the reported theme, nature and text writing study for a detailed study of the environmental report; Chapter4Conclusion:the quantitative analysis and content analysis summed up the characteristics of the New York Times environmental news, analysis the causes of the characteristics and reported deficiencies; Conclusion:the article features, inadequacies and future direction of efforts have also briefly described.The results show that the environmental news coverage of the New York Times showing the characteristics of diversification, risk and user-friendly reports, in which diversification is mainly reflected in the report genre diversification, diversification of sources and reported that the theme of diversity. Environment.News reported based on the characteristics of Western society, journalism, sociology, and environmental ethics as the ideological foundation. With specific reference now:diversification of reports both from the concept of objective reporting in journalism, they are inseparable and the U.S. Environmental Journalism Education, in short, the reporter’s specialized literacy; characteristics of risk reported speaking from a sociological point of view, both the source highlight environmental issues in China, but also from the Western society the risk of social theory; user-friendly reports is dominated by the ecological environmental ethics anthropocentrism theory. From the vocational journalism perspective, China environment news report from New York Times is not perfect, a single news source from China, the lack of reports on rural areas, and rarely by the inadequacies of the measures to solve the problem are the deficiencies.
