With the rapid development of3D display techniques,3D TV has becomemore and more popular in the consumer market, especially the shutter glasses3DTV. Comparing to the other competitive techniques, the shutter glasses3D displaysystem gains better3D’s effect, higher resolution, lower-cost liquid crystal moduleetc than its competitors. Therefore, it has been widely-adopted by many TVmanufactures.This research focuses on the backlight control system of shutter glasses3Ddisplay, and completes the design and implementation of backlight control systemfor120Hz shutter glasses3D LCD. In pursuit of higher display quality, we proposea cooperative control technique of backlight and shutter glasses to enhance thebrightness and alleviate the crosstalk. In addition, a novel3D display testingsystem is introduced in this paper to facilitate the evaluation of3D perceptualquality. The novelty of our test technique lies on test feature design andcomprehensive testing methods.This research topic consists three parts: algorithm design, hardware design andtest branch design. The algorithm design includes corresponding3D imageprocessing and optimum backlight scanning. The hardware development includescircuit,LED backlight design and the implementation is based on46inch doubleshort side3D LCD platform. In the test works, the backlight scanning and theliquid crystal addressing are synchronized first, then the3D glasses switch timingare forced to fit the variance of backlight. The novel evaluates both the subjectiveand objective performance of the new display system. Experimental results showsthat the mentioned cooperative backlight control technique can significantly improve the performance of3D TV by enhancing the bright and alleviating thecrosstalk simultaneously.The novel control system has been widely-used in the manufacture of largesize shutter glasses3D LC-TV which has brilliant prospect. In addition, this workcan also enlighten other relative developments of3D techniques.
