Since it introduced information communication theory from communication science in the late20th century, archival science has begun to study the archival information communication. However, due to the lacks of research on how to use the media widely and effectively to communicate archival information, archives department can not meet people’s archival information needs. Therefore, this thesis takes a research in both theory and practice fields on media use, in order to provide the guidance to archives department.In the theory filed, first of all, it elaborates the theoretical basis and practical needs of media use research, emphasizes that media use research bases on profound archival science theory and strong archival work demand. Next, it discusses media types which are applicable in archival information communication and names of these media in archival science. At last, it discourses media use principles when archives department use them.After building the theory, the thesis analyzes the practice field of media use in archival work. First, it elaborates the media’s information communication characteristics, analyzes how those characteristics are applied to communicate archival information, indicates the problems, and proposes the rational improvement suggestions. Next, it discusses the constraint factors when using media, discourses how the constraint factors emerge and what results they take, finally puts forward the targeted countermeasures.In the last chapter, the thesis gives the prospect of media use in modern archival information communication. Henceforth, the media use in archives department will go toward three trends:integrated use, co-use and universal use.
