According to the statistics,80%Car accidents on the highway arecaused by the tire burst. Nowadays, how to prevent the tire burst has becomean important topic of safe driving. Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TirePressure Monitoring System, TPMS) is a new and effective safety device toprevent the tire burst. This system can monitor the internal pressure andtemperature of the tire automatically. If the internal pressure or temperatureof the tire is abnormal, this system will alarm the driver timely. Recently,Euro-American countries have made installation of TPMS compulsorylegislation which brings rapid development of TPMS in foreign countries. However, TPMS research in our country is relatively slow. So the study ofTPMS with independent intellectual property rights becomes crutial for ourcountry. As a result, a set of tire pressure monitoring system based onwireless sensor networks with new low power consumption and highanti-interference ZigBee technology was designed and developed in thispaper.Firstly, this paper described the significance of the research of TPMS inour country. The development of TPMS at home and abroad was widelyinvestigated. Mainstream designs and key technologies of TPMS werepointed out. Then the author proposed the whole design scheme of tirepressure monitoring system. The system comprised four tire monitor slavenodes and one on-board monitor master node. Accordingly to the ZigBeetopology types of wireless sensor network, a simple and suitable star networktopology structure was selected for this system.Secondly, a detailed description was given to tire monitor slave nodes andon-board monitor master node in this paper, including hardware selection, circuitdesign, software design and the design of the wireless2.4GHz PCB antenna. Bothdevices used the same CC2430processor of the SOC single chip, the design of hardware included power module, a minimum system, communication module, antenna module and LCD display module. The subprograms of software designincluded collecting and processing of the pressure and temperature data, wirelessdata sending and receiving, LCD display etc. This paper introduced the theoreticalcalculation of the antenna, and the PCB antenna of this system was finally designedby modeling in HFSS simulation software. Finally, the system performance was tested, including test environmentconfiguration, warning functions of pressure and temperature, the wirelesssignal BER&PER. Power consumption of SP12sensor and processor chipCC2430was analyzed, combined with the average day’s work withautomobile tires as well as lithium battery capacity of the battery module, byanalyzing the final results, the working life of the tire monitor can work up tofour years or more.
